GORSEMOOR PRIMARY JUNIOR CADETS |
||
|
#JuniorCadets | For the past few weeks, PCSO Suki Mander has been delivering a Junior Cadet programme at Gorsemoor Primary School, giving pupils a valuable insight into policing, community responsibility, and personal safety.
We began by exploring what “community” really means and how the law helps protect us. Pupils learned why their choices matter and how everyone has a part to play in creating a safe, respectful environment.
Communication skills were another key focus. Through activities and teamwork, the children practised listening, speaking with confidence, and supporting one another—skills that help prevent misunderstandings and build trust.
We also looked at anti‑social behaviour, discussing how issues such as vandalism, bullying, and harassment can affect people and places. Pupils learned how positive decisions and small acts of respect can make a big difference to the wider community.
A particularly exciting part of the course was our introduction to forensic science. The pupils discovered how evidence is collected and why careful investigation is so important. It highlighted how actions leave traces and reinforced the message of taking responsibility.
We spent time discussing healthy and unhealthy relationships too—learning how to recognise when a friendship or situation doesn’t feel safe, the importance of setting boundaries, and the value of speaking to a trusted adult.
Finally, we covered the topic of theft, helping pupils understand that taking something that isn’t theirs damages trust and breaks the law. Honesty and respect were reinforced as foundations of a strong, safe community.
The Junior Cadets scheme is a fantastic way for young people to build confidence, learn life skills, and take pride in helping their community.
